Saitama City Traditional Industry Guidebook Update

In Saitama City, where our store is located, industries and establishments that meet certain conditions are certified as ” traditional industries ” and ” traditional industry establishments ” as valuable local resources unique to the city (=Saitama City Brand).

The following conditions are important for this certification.

  • Must be deeply related to the climate and history of Saitama City
  • The company must possess the ・ technique, an unique technique rooted in the local community.
  • The fact that these techniques have been handed down over many years; and

In particular, the following three are designated as ” traditional industries ” that were originally created in Saitama City, developed, and are still being passed down today.

  • Dolls of Iwatsuki
  • Bonsai of Omiya
  • Eels of Urawa

While these are the main focus, other establishments that meet certain conditions are certified as ” traditional industry establishments. The types of establishments are categorized as follows


Classification of traditional industry establishments

Business establishments that are deeply related to the characteristics of the region
Business establishments that meet the conditions of the characteristics, such as long-established businesses with deep roots in the region, originating from the natural environment such as the Arakawa River or the Moto-arakawa River, or geographical conditions such as an inn town on the Nakasendo Highway.

Business establishments belonging to traditional industries
Business establishments that are involved in “Iwatsuki Dolls,” “Omiya Bonsai,” and “Urawa Eels” and meet the criteria.

Business establishments that carry on traditional handicraft techniques
Business establishments that manufacture handicrafts using the traditional handcraft techniques fostered in Musashi Province during the Edo period and meet the criteria.

Thankfully, our mounting store has long been designated by Saitama City as a “business establishment closely related to the characteristics of the local community”.

The requirements are that ・’s origins are deeply related to the local characteristics such as the climate and history of the city.
・The business must have been established in the city before the Taisho Era.
・The business must emphasize the importance of tradition at the core of its management.

These are the three points above.
