The Tokyo Handicrafts Project ・mounting has launched its hands-on program.
As part of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government’s “Tokyo Handicrafts” project,
we have launched a program where you can experience mounting techniques.
This time, we’re offering a “Create Your Own Original Art Panel” workshop.

While our shop typically specializes in the production ・ and restoration of hanging scrolls, framed artworks, and folding screens,
but in this program, you’ll get to experience a part of that mounting work firsthand.
During the workshop, you’ll first select a single character of your choice from a selection of calligraphy works we’ve prepared in advance.

Next, you’ll select your preferred fabric or washi paper and, while considering the placement of the calligraphy and the balance of the margins,
decide on the overall composition of the panel.

Then, you’ll mount the selected fabric or washi paper onto a wooden panel
to create your own original art panel.

The final impression varies greatly depending on the color and texture of the materials, as well as the placement of the calligraphy.
We hope you’ll not only create something, but also gain insight into the philosophy
which is a philosophy we mounting artists cherish in our daily work.

You can take your finished art panel home the very same day.
This program is primarily aimed at visitors to Japan from overseas,
and aims to provide them with an opportunity to experience traditional Japanese crafts and mounting techniques.
Of course, participants from within Japan are also very welcome.
We hope those as many people as possible—both in Japan and abroad—
to help them feel more connected to this craft.
