Old glue water change 2021
Happy New Year, it has been a long time.
I am happy to report that we have done our annual water change of the old glue.
Please take a look at our 2018, 2019, and 2020 posts.
Once a year, during the coldest time of the year, we open the jars of glue and change the water.
First, two jars are removed from the basement.
The first one is the old glue made in 2018.

Peel off the sealing Washi, and now it’s time to open the book.

Compared to last year and the year before, it looks much less grotesque, but it still needs to be blurred out.
Like last year, the surface was covered with whitish mold. It is almost odorless in spite of its appearance, as in previous years.
Discard the water and mold those has accumulated on the glue. You can see a glimpse of mold in the bucket on the left.

Clean water is added and the water change is complete.

Next, open the jar of glue made last year (2020). An indescribable smell wafted out from the stage of removing the Japanese paper seal.

It must be a big trouble inside.
Now it’s time to open the door!

There is no mold!
There was no mold, no, cloudy water covered the surface, but there was almost no mold-like substance.
Instead(?) Instead, there was a bad smell like rotten dairy products.
When I dumped the muddy water, it looked like this

The water is replaced with clean water, sealed with washi paper, and the water change is complete.

We will let it rest in the basement for another year. I wonder what kind of mold & smell I will encounter next year.
these is my report for 2021.
